Good People Make Good Neighbors

I'm sure you heard the saying, "Good fences make good neighbors." I can't deny that this isn't true, but I do know that there's more to it. We moved into our house on February 29, 2008, but had already met one set of neighbors back in January while looking at the house. They pulled into the cul-de-sac one day as we walked around looking at the house from the sidewalk. "Are ya'll the new neighbors?" "We hope so!" "Well, alright. Good luck!" We were lucky...and we continue to be. Since our initial meeting we have been blessed by this couple time and time again. They are that genuine, "down home" type of people and they've been married for 50 years. We have borrowed every manner of tool from them. Pipe wrench? They've got all sizes - even the ultra-huge 2 footer, which is what we happened to need. How do we get some screws in this cement? Oh, you'll need to use my hammer drill...be right back. Sawhorses? I've got 2 kinds.

Today they really went over the top for us...rhubarb clumps! Several of them. They originally came from another cul-de-sac neighbor many years ago. Yes, we have the best cul-de-sac in town!
Look at this beast. Those look like tree roots!

Strawberry-rhubarb pie, here we come!

It's nice to have great neighbors. We have been lucky in Colorado. Not so lucky in Nebraska. Luck of the draw.
I love rhubarb. That is going to make some delish dessert.

We are so blessed with ours. And I hope they in us. Your neighbors are probably thrilled that you appreciate what they have to share.

I love rhubarb...especially rhubarb pie! And as far as neighbors...Ugh! I've seriously thought about moving because of neighbors. We have a gossip hound, heavy drinkers out partying until about 3 am every night, etc., etc. Wish I had neighbors like yours! Lucky you!

We just moved into our new neighbourhood last year. Most of the people on our block have lived here for 20+ years. They were so nice to us newcomers - they actually had a dinner party to welcome us.

How nice that you've found a great place.

I'm glad you have such neighbirs Jackie. You are a good neighbor yourself, I am sure! Those roots are very impressive!

Too bad one isn't allowed to "interview" the neighbors before moving in...

To those of you with "less than stellar" neighbors, I wish you the best of luck in dealing with them.

To all those "good neighbors" out there...thanks.

Good neighbors really are a joy. We got lucky here also. Now that I'm here I would love to be able to interview anyone who wants to move into the neighborhood...

Lovely rhubarb, my last plant was gopher food. Now I'm trying to grow some from seed but not having a lot of success.
