Front Garden Plan

Well, after a lot of fussing, I've come up with the vegetable garden plan (click to enlarge it). It's rather precise and I highly doubt that the actual garden will show much resemblance. But, hey, it's something to shoot for! This will be my first real vegetable garden since we just bought our new house 2 weeks ago.

It seems that moving only a couple of miles away is going to get me a LOT more sun and some more heat! Pacific Grove was just too foggy in the summer to grow the warm season crops (like tomatoes!) with much success. So Seaside, "show me the sun"! I'm hoping to put the root veggies in the ground this weekend and start the warm season crops in trays on the back patio. Not sure if I need to pull them in at night...temp's still get down to the low 40's sometimes. I'm sending a soil sample to the Univ. of Massachusetts for testing. Hopefully the results won't be too bad. I'm hoping for an A- on the test ;) But I'm also planning on incorporating some aged manure (free!) and some compost before planting. Unfortunately I have to BUY compost since I'm just now starting out, but by next year I'll have my own organic compost. Our yard is quite large, so I should have all the compost I need by next winter.

Yee-haw! I can't wait to start digging!
